The current pandemic has put the whole world into a topsy turvy and restricted free movement from one place to another. The other day I was sitting idle and then this yearning to go on a holiday suddenly struck me. The thought of our previous holidays, planning for it and then the process of journeying to the place brought a smile on my lips. I have always loved travel by a train, much more than i do travelling on an aeroplane. Had written this poem on one such holiday, going by the train and listening to the wheels of the train singing to me.
I hope it brings a smile on your face too.
Click clack, clickety-clack
listen to the song of my wheels!
Where shall I take you
pray tell me please?
Take me far away from the city,
away from the concrete jungle’s vicinity;
Past miles of open fields,
decked in a carpet of green.
Take me past that unknown village
With huts thatched or tiled.
Where the little boy stares in wonder
at the train speeding by!
Take me past that wooded stretch
With trees a canopy of green.
Where butterflies in daytime flit around
And fireflies at night abound.
Shake-Shake, rock-roll
rest awhile as I speed you away.
O’er the silver mountain brook that
through the hills winds its way.
Toot-toot! I blow my whistle running fast,
The excursion away from chore!
To days full of happiness, relaxation
and memories to keep in store!
