The Woodpecker Visits

Sound of constant blows

Every morn at my window-

Woodpecker’s red plume.

Bonds

Detached leaves of trees

Vagabond in winter breeze….

Unyielding bonds break.

Crow

Warmth of spring season

Memory of my past life….

I hear them beckon.

PS : In Hindu religion, a crow is considered to be a carrier of the soul of a dead relative. When the dead relatives wish to visit the earth, they come in the form of crows. A reason why crows are sought during a funeral rituals and provided offerings; by that it is hoped that the dead soul also gets the offering. This haiku is a derivation from this ritual.

Wedding Day

Glowing bride in red

Tinge of sorrow in her smile-

Twilight hues sadden.

PS : An Indian bride would be usually decked in shades of red on the wedding day. While it is an occasion of joy, there is also a hint of sadness in the bride's house as the next morning would entail departure of the bride.

Lurking Danger

Lured by azure sky

The pigeon soars skywards-

Unaware of falcon.

Autumn Migration

Flock of flying birds.

Carry my thoughts to my home

Beyond misty hills.

Morning Dewdrops

Drip of dewdrops

Shining pearls on fallen leaves.
