Ambition

His stupid heart;
Vehement in its denial
Of all things prudent and practical.
A romantic, by nature.
Living in a fool's paradise.

While his friends were busy
Coping with pressure of the daily grind,
Earning university degrees
A job for the future
Raising a family,
Money for their material benefits,
He wanted to be-
A moonbeam!

Like the moonbeam,
travelling ticketless
Over the whole earth,
He wanted to caress the soul
Of many a traveller
Weary with fatigue
On the road of life.
Like the moonbeam
He wanted to lie, floating
On the vast oceans
And swim with the whales.
Penetrate into
the depths of forests
Basking in the silence
Breathing a bouquet of fragrances
Of wild moss and lichens
And lie peacefully
with the lions outside their den.
Like a moonbeam
He wanted to sooth and calm,
Induce peace and love,
In all hearts baying for blood
And plotting violence
On humanity and nature.

Sitting by the roadside,
In tattered clothes and unkempt hair,
Lost in thought,
Vehemently shaking his head, sometimes,
While staring at the moon,
He still nurses this wish
Of becoming a moonbeam.

Inspired by a famous poem named "Amalkanti" in my mother tongue.

Stars

Expanse of night sky
Sprinkled with shimmering stars
Binding in a spell;
Mystery of the cosmos
Living their own destiny.

Giggle never ages

Ppicture courtesy-Rightful owner.
In her wrinkled face.
Struggles of years reside.
Giggles never age.

In face of struggles.
Her spirit remained robust.
Giggles, they remained.

Never losing face.
Pride displayed in glint of eyes.
Giggles, they endear.

The face of the brave
Smiling away life's struggles.
Unsheathe your giggles.

Sudden Occurrence

Sudden occurrence;
A crimson life from earth’s womb.
Confidently poised.
Marvelling nature around
During its short existence.

Like Autumn Leaves

Words wish to fly away.
Like those dry leaves
on an autumn’s day.
Words that have dried up,
Have nothing worthwhile to offer any more
By way of solace,
Or advise,
Or for that matter comfort.

They were once full of life!
Coloured in hues,
Rippling with energy,
Growing inside the head and
Springing forth from lips.

Burdened with my melancholy,
Today they are unwanted.
Dry, yellowed with my stale dreams
They simply fall away;
like the dried leaves in autumn.

In their final hours,
They only wish to be blessed
With a tear or two of someone,
whose heart it may have touched once;
Like those dew drops at dawn
On fallen leaves of autumn.

Our Cities

Soaring Skyscrapers.

Endless human ambition.

Trees felled at fast clip.

Autumn Morn

Dawn finds dewy grass.

Bedecked with fallen flowers.

Wrapped palms over warm tea.
