#Writephoto Lament of the stone steps

I have felt and seen it all!
Felt the pattering feet of the child
Playing with his friends;
Jumping,
running up and down
over me;
sometimes thumping in sheer joy,
sometimes on tip-toe
when playing a game of hide and seek.
Her exuberance,
The warmth of her happiness
Perhaps making me a bit like humans.

Then she grew up and her beauty,
Made me sigh every time
She stepped on me with her dainty feet.
Her nightly escapades,
Passionate kisses
and embraces
of her lover,
kept me enveloped
in the warmth of love
that the bloom of youth
had kindled in her soul.
The warmth, perhaps
Making me more human with each.

Then everyone went away.
A cold emptiness descended,
leaving me brittle.
No longer protected
by the human warmth,
I was left for the elements of nature
To take its toll;
Wearing me,
Chipping and
Cracking me till
I was left,
Once again,
A cold worn out stone!

Author: gdutta17

Born in the year 1968, my childhood was spent amidst the beautiful scenic landscape of a small town in India, Ranchi. Though an engineer by qualification, reading, writing and cooking are my passions. Another thing that I am passionate about is my country, India. As they say, a lifetime is probably not enough to explore the whole of India. Currently based in Kolkata, I can be reached at gdutta17@gmail.com.

    1. Hi

      Yes….so terribly sorry to be a bother. In my excitement had not realised this is a prompt from a different blog. Have realised my mistake and now linked it to her prompt.

      Thanks so much for pointing out.

      The picture is so beautiful that I just sat looking at it…and then the steps seemed to speak to me.. Thank you once again.😊🙏
